Executive
function is the skills that provide critical support for learning and
development to your children. We aren’t born with these skills but develop them
through interaction and practice as we grow. In simple language, executive
function is described as skills that help children in becoming more attentive,
more organized, flexible and responsive with age.
There are
many teaching center and schools that help children and kids to develop Executive Functioning skills in NY and NJ
with the help of fun activities. Following are some of the ways and activities
commonly used in schools that help kids to learn executive function and
self-control.
Sorting Games:
This game is
generally for the child of three-to-four years. The child is asked to sort a
series of cards. The cards have different shapes (bunnies and cars) and colors
(red and blue). First, the child is asked to sort the card on the basis of
shape and later the rules are changed in which the child has to pile the blue
car and blue bunnies in one pile and red bunnies and red car in another pile.
Initially,
the child faces difficulty with change of the rule and keeps following the same
old rule in sorting the card i.e. they perseverate. But by proper guidance and
coaching, they are taught to sort the card on the basis of color. This game
helps children in adjusting themselves with the changing rules, to inhibit
their impulse, and to hold multi-information in their head at a time.
Repeated and Rhythmic Music:
The rhythmic
music helps children in developing their working memories. They are asked to perform
the action along with the order of the verses. This helps them in becoming more
attentive and thoughtful.
Board Games:
These games
help in developing skills in the teens. Teens enjoy games like Taboo and Apples
to Apples. This type of games involves complex thinking and inhibition control.
